How to Care for your Eyes

The eyes deserve all the care we can give as they are some of the most vital parts of our body. There are a lot of problems associated with degrading eye health, but you can avoid them with proper eye care. Always wear sunglasses
Looking at the sun directly can damage your eyes, but it’s not the only way that the sun can be harmful. The sun emit what is called ultraviolet rays, which can cause eye conditions such as skin cancer, cataracts, and more. You can prevent these, though, simply by using sunglasses designed to block 100 percent of UVB and UVA light. This means that you have to buy a good pair, not the cheap $5 kind. Always wear a pair whenever you go out, and you always get the added benefit of preventing wrinkles around your eyes.

Don’t rub your eyes
Your hands carry a lot of germs and dirt that you may not see, and these can easily be transferred to your eyes. It’s risky to make your hands come in contact with your eyes as this may lead to lasting issues. Rubbing can also scratch your cornea, which can also be damaged permanently. If your eyes are itchy, you can instead use cold compress, eye drops. Or if you have allergies or an eye condition, see an eye doctor to treat them.

Stay hydrated
Hydration is not only for the body, it’s also for the eyes. If you’re properly hydrated, your eyes will produce tears to keep them healthy, so be sure that you’re drinking the recommended amount of water.

Rest your eyes
Because technology is everywhere, our eyes cannot help but fixate on screens such as on televisions, on computers, and cellphones. Prolonged and uninterrupted fixation on screens can cause eye fatigue and can quickly cause other detriments, so resting your eyes for a bit can go a long ways in terms of keeping your vision healthy. To prevent eye strain, simply follow the 20-20-20 rule, which dictates that you take a break every 20 minutes to look at anything that is 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

If you notice some changes in your eyes, go to your eye doctor immediately. You can prevent conditions from getting serious if you receive the proper eye care that you need at the onset.
